喫茶養生記( Kissa Yojoki

"Kissa Yojoki" is the oldest Japanese book on tea, written by Zen monk Eisai. Eisai, who was active during the Kamakura period, played a significant role in the history of tea. He traveled to the Song Dynasty in China, where he learned Zen teachings and brought them back to Japan. He also studied tea cultivation, processing, drinking methods, and health benefits, compiling his findings into "Kissa Yojoki," which he completed at the age of 71. This book greatly influenced the tea culture of the time, contributing significantly to the spread and development of tea. In Kenji 2 (1202), Eisai founded Kenninji Temple in Kyoto to mourn the death of Minamoto no Yoritomo. In Kenpo 2 (1214), he presented tea as a good medicine to Minamoto no Sanetomo and dedicated "Kissa Yojoki" to him.
